For the exhibition The Rare Earth Series, County Hall Pottery presented new ceramic work by Charly Blackburn, whose glazes are pigmented with lanthanide oxides and shaped by the physics of light. I worked with the client and the artist to develop the visual identity, publication, and environmental design for the show.
A central focus of the identity was the spherical harmonics behind the work and the texture of the elements on the ceramic surfaces. Research shaped a visual system built on a radial wheel of the lanthanide elements, ordered by atomic number and coloured to match their characteristic oxide tones. It was further simplified mark for posters, and the publication carries the same colour, geometry, and surface texture onto the page alongside the work.
